Engineered Flooring

At Apple Flooring our ENGINEERED FLOORING BOARDS are more stable than solid wood boards, due to their cross grain construction. This construction type means that engineered floor tolerate natural expansion and contraction much better than a solid wood floor.

Engineered Flooring has greater stability and is also compatible with underfloor heating.

Engineered wood floors are made of layers. The top layer is a veneer of solid wood which gives you that authentic look and feel. The other layers are designed to resist changes in moisture and heat, which means you can lay these floors in nearly any room.

Construction.

Engineered floors are constructed in 2 ways.

Opt 1: The first being a 3-layer construction where you have the top layer of Oak 1mm to 6mm with a middle core of softwood and a bottom layer of plywood. These floors are up to 20mm thick

Opt 2: The second option is a 2-layer construction where you have the top layer of wood from 1mm to 6mm, bonded on a multi-ply base giving an overall thickness of up to 20mm

Wear layer.

This is the top layer of actual wood that is bonded to the softwood or plywood base layers. The wear layer is dependent on which floor you choose. The wear layer varies from 1mm to 6mm. The thicker the wear layer, the floor will take heavier traffic and can be sanded more frequently.

Width of boards.
